Description
despite popular belief began in the winter of 2002 with drew (guitar, vocals), chris (bass), mike (drums), and matt (guitar). After nearly two years of playing completely original music and touring all over illinois, matt decided to leave the band for personal reasons. with his departure came the welcoming of nate (guitar, perc). just after a few shows, his older brother steve (guitar, backing vocals) joined. with the addition of two new musicians and the departure of another, we felt we owed it to ourselves to start fresh.
we have done a 180 with the sound of our music, the maturity in the lyrics, and the look of the band. We went through literally hundreds of possible band names and then settled on the popular belief. we have since come to realize that the title is perfect since the popular belief is the opposite of despite popular belief.
the five members of the popular belief met through playing at their local church. all five members went through audition processes to get into the program so there was no lack of musicianship or leadership. the newest members have been with the band since the beginning so stepping in was not much of a step at all.
the band has completed two eps (so this is what you look like under the bright lights, the sawtooth sessions) and are currently finishing up a third (oh! you're so polite) which should be out by the end of November if not sooner. during the month of december the band will begin recording their first full length (an american in love) and should see release of the album by february.
the band is very thankful for the friends we have in the music industry and the fans that come to the shows. the people who helped introduce us all at our church have no idea how grateful we are to them. anyone that has ever helped us in anyway possible, thank you very much. |
